Welcome to the start of a new decade with new hopes, aspirations and resolutions you have set, that hopefully haven’t been broken just yet! We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe holiday season.
During 2019, we all experienced just how much strength New Zealander’s have and exhibited our communities coming together after the pain felt for the people of Christchurch and those affected by the events of White Island. As we move forward into 2020, we remember these events but hold optimism for a better year, a better decade and find hope in how our communities band together to help those in need.
Through many months of 2019 and into 2020, Australia is facing an unprecedented national crisis, as bushfires tear through rural communities across the nation. Some regions of the country recorded air quality measurements 20 times above the hazardous level. Many have had to flee their homes. With fire conditions getting worse in the coming days, help is required. Several organisations and volunteer services are aiding in the firefighting and recovery efforts for affected communities. There are several ways we can help. Making donations to the likes of The Salvation Army Australia, NSW Rural Fire Service, WIRES Wildlife Rescue and Australian Red Cross are a few ways among many - or you can check out this Stuff article for more ways to help here. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.
The team at Summit have a lot to look forward to going into 2020, from training days with the likes of John Abbott and Aaron Shiner to our annual fundraising initiatives with the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter. We look forward to growing as a team and continuing to give back to our community.
